Project Youth Doc - Portland

Project Youth Doc (PYD) is a four-week summer video documentary program for youth ages 13-16 years old taught at the Hollywood Theatre from June 24th - July 22nd.  Students accepted into the program complete an intense course in documentary video taught by professional filmmakers, using pro production equipment, industry standard lighting, sound gear, HD cameras and Final Cut Pro equipped Macs.

PYD students create documentaries focusing on the most powerful force in our society today, their own voices, turning the camera inward to explore issues important to their lives and the lives of other project members.  Working in small teams, students go through the process of producing, filming and editing a short documentary from start to finish. PYD films will premiere at the Hollywood Theatre and students will receive a copy of their completed work on DVD.

Roundtable Discussion

Digital Scholars Roundtable
UO Graduate Certificate in New Media
Friday April 1 1:00-2:30
McKenzie Collaboration Center
175 McKenzie
Moderated by Carol Stabile, Doug Blandy and Andrew Bonamici
The worlds in which scholars now live and work are undergoing rapid and dramatic changes. In the humanities and social sciences, scholarship on new media and culture continues to proliferate, myriad efforts to digitize texts and artifacts are underway, and researchers across disciplines are learning how to develop and use digital tools. All these changes affect how we do research, how we publish it, and how we think about the products of scholarly research; indeed, they alter what it means to know anything at all.

As our graduate students – MA and PhD alike – enter an ever more competitive job market, their experience and proficiency with new media will also contribute to their success as scholars and potential employees. UO Digital Scholars have been organizing an effort to create a graduate certificate program in new media and culture. We hope you (faculty, students, administrators) will join us for a roundtable discussion about the possibility of such a certificate program.
