The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POWFest) is excited to announce the programming highlights of our upcoming 5th Anniversary festival scheduled to take place March 8 – 11, 2012 at the Hollywood Theatre.

As the only film festival in Portland exclusively dedicated to showcasing films directed by women and encouraging women to take on the director's chair; we are one of only a handful of festivals in the U.S. dedicated to women-directed film. With each year, the festival has continued to grow. Attendance has more than doubled and ticket sales have increased by 75%, exposing more works by women to the film-going community.

Jurying submissions of over 400 films from female filmmakers around the world, POWFest organizers strive to include a broad collection of films by a range of filmmakers that include first-timers to veterans who have been working in cinema for many years. The March First Friday Artwalk at DIVA will include a display of mixed media "little houses" made by artist Kay King and the families who participated in her Martin Luther King Jr. Day service activity offered in conjunction with the UO Youth Enrichment Program. All proceeds from the sale of these miniatures will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.

Call for Entries: Aethetica Short Film Festival

We're looking for films under 25 minutes to screen at ASFF 2012 and it's a fantastic opportunity for filmmakers to broadcast their work to a wider audience.

ASFF 2012 takes place in the historic city of York from 8 - 11 November. The screenings will cover a wide variety of genres and filmic styles, including: drama, documentary, animation, comedy, music video, thriller, experimental and artists' film. The films will be showcased across 15 iconic locations in the city, from medieval halls to boutique cinemas and in addition to four days of screenings there will also be a series of master classes, workshops and networking with leading industry figures.

The winner will also receive £500 among other prizes and screenings at a number of other UK festivals and the runner-up will receive £250. A shortlist of finalists will be included on the ASFF Sampler DVD, which will be distributed with the December 2012 issue of Aesthetica Magazine, an international arts and culture publication. Finalists will also be included in an editorial feature in the magazine.

The 2012 OpenLens Festival celebrates the spirit of Oregon’s independent filmmaking community on Saturday, January 28th. This eighth annual event has become known for its outstanding juried short films of 15-minutes or less.

The one-day festival includes an informative and entertaining afternoon:

1:00 PM Seminar: How to watch a movie like a film critic: with film reviewer Doug Hennessy. Location: UO Baker Center Auditorium at 325 E. 10th Street in Eugene. Admission: Free. First come first seated.

4:00 PM Meet and Greet The Filmmaker: an opportunity to meet this year's filmmakers in an informal and relaxing setting at Davis’ Restaurant & Bar, 94 W. Broadway. Eugene. Free. No Host Bar available.

7:30 PM OpenLens Festival Screening, Awards, and Receptio:. Location: UO Baker Center Auditorium at 325 E. 10th Street in Eugene. Admission: $8 includes reception with refreshments following the festival program and awards. Click2See a synopsis of the Jury selected films to be screened.

The 2012 festival competition includes the awarding of Jury Best Of Show ($500), Jury Honorable Mention ($250), and Audience Choice Award ($100). This year a new screen writing competition has been added and is sponsored by Eugene based Rubicon Film Productions Ltd. A special $250 best screenplay prize for a short narrative film will be awarded.

The OpenLens festival is hosted by DIVA (The Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts) with support in part by a grant from the Lane Arts Council.

Italian Plein Air Painting Workshop

Please consider joining me for a 13-day plein air painting workshop in Seggiano, Italy (Tuscany). My name is Jerry Ross and I have exhibited widely in Italy and am known for my "verismo" school of painting that promotes the painting theories of the I Macchiaioli (Tuscan School) who stressed "dal vero", painting from life, and the establishment of the foundational "macchia" (stain) as the compositional structure of a painting. The cost $2950 covers transportation to Seggiano from Rome airport and all ground transportation to Tuscan hilltowns, room and board at a Tuscan B&B, and instruction. Students are welcome at any level, using any media although instruction will be in oil paints. Daily demos will inform students of how to begin a painting using the ideas of the I Macchiaioli school. The Eugene, Oregon Police Art Committee is placing a call for artists for the future police headquarters at 300 Country Club.

Over the last two months a police art committee has been developing goals and a selection process for new art to be commissioned with the future police headquarters. This committee is responsible for the development, selection and implementation of an art project triggered by the City’s 1% for Art Ordinance. The overall art process is expected to take between nine months to one year and the initial project budget is $75,000. The focus of the public art is the within the public areas of the building only.

The Police Art Committee is seeking applicants with the ability to generate outstanding artistic concepts that are relevant to the department. The new art will strive to create a memorable and welcoming building and be a timeless, proud celebration of the positive connections between EPD and the community. The goals of the artwork are as follows:

Goal 1) Celebrate and affirm the spirit of service for EPD staff, volunteers and officers.

Concepts supporting this goal will serve as positive daily affirmations for officers and staff who have dedicated themselves to protect and serve. These reminders will provide an ideal to reach for every day as people enter and exit the grounds.

Goal 2) Support the people who are served by EPD. Concepts achieving this goal will support people who need the services of EPD after experiencing something very difficult and at times horrible. The artwork should provide positive reminders of care and affirmations of strength while helping create a welcoming, trusting, dignified environment.

The committee is composed of Sergeant Angie San Miguel, Officer Dale Dawson, Dimitri Von Klein (photographer), Joe Moore (Public Art Committee member), Charly Prichard (Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art chief preparatory), Mike Penwell (City of Eugene design and construction manager), Kari Turner (PIVOT architect), and Isaac Marquez (City of Eugene public art manager).

(Eugene, Oregon) The 2012 OpenLens Festival seeks submissions by Oregon filmmakers for its eighth annual celebration of the short film genre to be held in Eugene January 28-29, 2012. Learn all about nuno feltmaking - the art of fusing silk and cotton fabric and wool fiber. We will go through a couple of exercises to become familiar with what fabrics work best and play nicely with different types of wool. You'll also learn techniques for blending color, adding texture effects and leave class ready to try your own projects at home. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to have fun, rollup your sleeves and get a little damp in the process.

24 Hour Comics Day - Sign up now!

DIVA to host 24 Hour Comics Day. On October 1st, starting at Noon, DIVA will host a 24 Hour Comic challenge to artists to create a complete 24 page comic in 24 hours. "Celebrity" participants, so far, include nationally recognized artist David Chelsea and Eugene's own Ken O'Connell. Participation is free, but pre-registration is required to guarantee a spot, as space is limited. DIVA will feature Chelsea's works in their October exhibit.
Portland artist David Chelsea, a record holder for 24 Hour Comics, will be participating, and is featured in DIVA's October Gallery Exhibit. GWFF is a first time event in Oregon presenting social justice films in a context designed to encourage civic dialogue, community engagement and action. GWFF combines public film screenings, forums and networking programs to extend the experience of watching the film(s). Most films will screen at the Bijou Arts Cinema. Saturday there is a film and panel discussion at the Hult Center Studio with a reception at Opus 7 following.

There will be a "Hub" - 2 canopies in the Bijou parking lot - where community groups will have tables and there will be hospitality for our guests

Brainard Carey Co-founder and Director of The Artworld Demystified, has been advising artists on all matters related to business, marketing and exhibitions for over 20 years. Considered a specialist in the field of professional practice for all types of artists, Carey has presented teleseminars and lectured on career management skills and also served as director and founder of a gallery and art magazine. He has a forthcoming book in the fall published by Allworth Press on career management in the art world.

Building a custom solid plan for the artist to develop their careers, is his specialty, and his consultations are similar to a post-graduate work in how to manage the art world.

Galleries and institutions have used Carey to raise funds for projects and to develop their audiences.

He has a Yale University radio show that regularly interviews artists and curators from around the world. Some of the people he has interviewed are Dean DeDearko, Laura Hoptman, Shamim Momin, David Ross, Arthur Danto, John Currin, Christo, Rirkrit Tyravanija, and many others.

By using his ability and interest in the international art world, he helps others to focus their ideas. He creates ways of reaching out to the world with the latest tools of social networking as well as traditional meetings and presentations.

He also writes letters, statements, grants and press releases for artists, galleries and museums to get more attention in print and on the web.

International Art Fair  ART MOSCOW 2011 is a key event on Russian art market and also an important event in the calendar of international art fairs. It plays an important role in interaction of business environment and culture and also is cultural and educational event itself. Annually the Fair receives over 20000 visitors, including a large number of foreign experts. Professional audience includes collectors, artists, representatives of Russian and foreign museums and galleries, curators, art dealers, critics and journalists.

ART MOSCOW 2011 is renewed annually, not only presenting to the public new works, names and galleries, but also introducing vital changes, which deeply affect the development of the project.

This year the number of experts in the Expert Council enlarged by entering foreign professionals from Great Britain (Rachael Barrett) and Germany (Anne Maier). The structure of exposition area was also altered. Following the international experience,  ART MOSCOW 2011offered the system of equal exposition area. Galleries are offered to stand out for the quality of their expositions but not for their size.

During the 2011  ART MOSCOW 2011 representations appeared in international activities at key sites of the world art scene in Berlin, Cologne, London, Madrid and Basel. The result of foreign activity is the increased number of foreign participants (10 new galleries this year) and the expanding pool of foreign participants in mass-media (18 new partners).

This year over 40 national and international galleries introduce their expositions at 15  ART MOSCOW 2011 Fair.

Traditionally the Fair hosts Moscow galleries АIDAN, М&Y GUELMAN, XL gallery and other famous Russian galleries.

KROKIN GALLERY will present the momentous works of Konstantin Batynkov, Alexander Dzhikiya and Vladimir Semenskiy. Also there will be presented the works of OPEN GROUP, a Moscow group of artists and designers, who successfully manifested themselves at previous  ART MOSCOW. This project, named "I Like It", consists of a series of paintings and offers an interactive social experiment, engaging audience in appraisal of particular art works.

TRIUMPH gallery presents a part of new project  «Allegoria Sacra» by AES+F art-group. This project is a third part of a trilogy about contemporary world (Hades – Eden – Purgatory), following "The Last Insurrection" and "Feast of Trimalсhio", featured at Venice Biennale in 2007-2009.
FINE ART gallery will present the paintings of Dmitriy Shorin and Irina Drozd. Photo works of Alexey Titarenko, Irina Polin, Henry Lutwiler and Linn Davis and the project of art-group «Fourth Height + Urs Bigler» are exhibited at ART MOSCOW by POBEDA gallery. Resumed its participation RUARTS gallery, presenting "Self-portraits" of Kimiko Ioshida, series of paintings "Live Iron" of Semion Agroskin and "Team" of Vita Bouivid, project «The Impossible Love» of Cornelli Tolensa and photos of Sergey Borisov and Yefrosina Lavroukhina.
Besides, three Russian galleries made at  ART MOSCOW their début:   Green Art (Perm), Kultproject (Moscow) and Gallery 21(Moscow). In particular, Green Art will present the paintings of  Rinat Voligamsi, known, first of all, for his provocative "Non-official Album", apocryphal photo biography of Lenin. Gallery KultProject included in the exposition the works of Igor Shelkovsky (sculptures) and Vladislav Nasedkin (paintings). Recently founded GALLERY 21 has passed the Expert Council due to active work with young Russian artists and cogent program, thus becoming an exception, as according to ART MOSCOW rules, only galleries with three-year work-experience are admitted to participation in the Fair.

Many foreign galleries take part in  ART MOSCOW for the first time. Gallery Gagliardi Art System (Torino) presents at the Fair the ironic sculptures of Italian artists Fabio Viale. Exposition by  Anca Poterasu gallery (Bucharest) in the person of artists Florin Mitroi, Suzana Dan, Zoltan Bela unites two Romanian different-generations art schools. Adora Calvo (Salamanca) presents the works of six artists from Spain and Latin America – Félix Curto, Diego del Pozo, SUSO33, Fernando Sinaga, Anaisa Franco, Beth Moyses. Collage Habana(Havana) will show project «Coincidencias de un Género» («Gender Coincidences»), including photo works of three Cuban female artists Cirenaica Moreira, Lidzie Alvisa Jiménez and Mabel Poulet and interpreting gender authentication of a woman in contemporary society.Temnikova&Kasella (Tallinn) presents Jaan Toomik video and the works of Kaido Ole from China and young Estonian female artists Merike Estna. Black Square (Miami) presents paper installations by Argentinian artist Pablo Lehmann and video-installations Taro Hasstori (USA-Japan). Galleries Nadya Brykina Gallery (Zurich) and Art&Space (Munich) will bring other interesting projects.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

ART MOSCOW presents not only galleries, but also personal expositions. This year it invites to see photo-works of  Jeff Cowen, exhibition of Vitas Stasyunas, paintings of Rafael Reno, 3D-projects supervised by Liza Plavinskaya and exposition of young artists from Great Britain Translate/Transcribe.
At the Fair there are expected lectures by Carlos Amorales and Adrian Notz, panel discussions from Artchronika magazine and Goethe Institute, creative workshops and seminars with outstanding representatives of contemporary art from Los Angeles and London. Artists and teacher Ian Gonczarow organizes with lecturers from British Higher School of Art and Design a series of lectures on theory and researches of contemporary art. A series of film screenings by Jason Underhill is also in the program.
It should be noted that this year’s September in Moscow is rich for art events.

4th Biennale of Contemporary Art is held in Moscow from September 23 till October 30.
ART MOSCOW is on the list of Biennale’s concurrent events. Main exposition of ART MOSCOW will be accompanied by vernisages in art-galleries, museum expositions and special projects.

Transcultures is happy to invite you to the ninth edition of the international sound art festival City Sonic which will take place in Mons (Belgium) from the 27th of August until the 11th of September 2011.

The opening welcomes everyone, it will take place on the 26th of August at 6 pm (meeting point Site des Abattoirs, rue de la trouille 7000 Mons) with a guided tour of the sound itinerary in the center of the city in the presence of the artists, Philippe Franck (artistic director of the festival) and Anne-Laure Chamboissier, associated curator.

In the evening, you're invited to a sonic drink, a cool mix (by Belle Jeunesse) and 2 sonic performances at the Royal Theatre (Grand'Place) by Alexander Schubert (interactivity drums/video) and Yvat Collective (Yvat, electronics versus Adrian Tabarescu on vibraphone) followed by groovy eclectic mixes by Radio Campus djs: Kandid, Youri Margarine, Belle Jeunesse & Satan.

Our modern communication offer great possibilities and enable us to reach any point in the world just by a click. To get in contact is easy, to become part of communities as well and to share interests, opinions and worries, no problem. But how does our neighborhood change during these times? City marketing and advertising determine what we get to see around us, varied codes of conduct regulate what to do and not to do. Public space has been increasingly functionalized and freed from any intimacy. We are exposing us in social networks, but we don't find a public place with a personal touch. During the study we will use a variety of techniques and exercises to focus perception of our own personality and the surrounding. We are developing skills to communicate in a concrete way with body and actions, and transform these into a performative work.

The presentation of this study will be shown as part of the Global Communication Festival for Performance Art 2011.

19 Adam Chodzko: Something in the Water; A Search for the Turn of the Backwash

Where’s the art work? The residency and its location is the work. The group is the work. The differencesbetween the group is the work. But the group is looking somewhere else altogether. And that somewhere else — certainly, not here — must be where art is really about to happen.

We would start, perhaps, by considering the Banffness of it all, looking for answers, and questions, in the background of the 1945 National Film Board production about The Banff School of Fine Arts,Holiday at School. Then we might wonder why Alberta became one of the few places in the world that successfully eradicated the Norwegian rat? And therefore consider the status of photography now, had not the Banff photography program gone missing for 10 years after a fire in 1979. This might lead us to the creation of a concert with Gnawa musicians. Or we could decide to transfer all decision-making for the group to a committee based in the city of Beppu, Japan.

Based on research and experimentation through play, improvisation, and the use of chance, this residency will explore the methodologies of ethnographic film maker Jean Rouch, that looking catalyses a particular reality. And, Grotowski’s notion that actors co-create the event of theatre with its spectators might provide some guidance. Moving between media we will, as a group, develop processes which question the role of vision in how we encounter each other and the social spaces beyond us. The carnivalesque, the everyday, magic, documentary, the surreal, the archive, ritual, reflexivity, and the pragmatic will help us out.

It’s a collaboration. Each participant contributing equally, sharing authorship. To encourage and celebrate resourcefulness in the city, EXCHANGE RADICAL MOMENTS! Live Art Festival is awarding a prize for the most innovative re-use of an urban object or area for a new purpose.

From telephone boxes being re-used as tree planters to street signs being used as musical instruments , the urban landscape is no longer the end of a creative process, but the beginning. The city has become source material and urban residents around the world are finding new uses for the existing infrastructure of their city.

Do you have an idea for how an object or area in the city could be put to better use than the one it was originally designed for? Have you seen or created an alternate use for something in the city? Please submit your photos, images and ideas below for a chance to win €500 as well as having your work published and exhibited.

The GO11 Award is a €500 prize for the best examples of re-using existing objects and areas of the city for a new purpose. The winning entry will receive €500, and will be presented in the festival magazine, published October 2011. Winning and shortlisted entries will also be presented as part of the Exchange Radical Moments festival in Berlin on 11/11/11. Additional judging and contest details can be found below. The weekend retreat – formerly known as DocFarm – will be filled with guided peer-to-peer workshops, documentary films, camaraderie, bonfires, and great food. The weekend kickoffs Friday evening with a Happy Hour followed by Rapid Recharge – an event where we show YOUR favorite, brain tingling, jaw dropping, inspiring clips. We will show five minutes of any genre of film you bring!

During workshops discover the myths of distribution; practice pitching your dream project and honing your idea; and explore the ethics of documentary filmmaking and the elements of storytelling.

Bring SHORT CLIPS for our Saturday evening Works-in-Progress (no longer than 10 minutes) and for our Rapid Recharge event on Friday (no longer than 5 minutes).

DocForest events end Sunday at 2pm so you'll have plenty of time to continue to enjoy this historic site and head home.

The Fair is produced by Kinetica Museum and provides collectors, curators and the public with a unique opportunity to view and purchase artworks from leading international galleries, artists collectives, curatorial groups and organisations specialising in Kinetic, Electronic, Digital and cutting edge New Media Art.

Alongside the Fair, Kinetica curate a programme of special events, performances, talks, screenings, tours and workshops. These events involve some of the world's most eminent leaders in the most experimental and exciting realms of art, science and technology.

The fair has been held annually since 2009, at Ambika P3, one of London's most exciting exhibition spaces and dynamic venues.

If you haven't heard, the Northwest Film & Video Festival has changed its name to The Northwest Filmmakers' Festival and I am looking for your best recent work for our 38th year of celebrating you. I am hoping you have something for me-or know someone who does.

The NW Filmmakers Festival only accepts work made by filmmakers living in Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington State.

If you are a permanent resident of any of these, this Festival is for you.

And it's not just "for you" in the sense that your work is eligible.

The whole festival is actually for you.

What do I mean?

We do not charge an entry fee.
All entries are considered for other screening opportunities at the Northwest Film Center including the Portland International Film Festival and our Northwest Tracking series.
All selected short films will be eligible to join the "Best of the 38th Northwest Film & Video Festival" touring program that screens at venues large and small from Alaska to Tennessee and many points in between.
Filmmakers whose work is selected are eligible to receive Production Services Awards worth $1000 or more from regional sponsoring companies like Alpha Cine, Digital One, Modern Digital and Koerner Cameras.
If your work is selected, you'll get a Festival Pass for all events including the Opening Night Gala and, of course, invigorating and inspirational hours of screenings made by you and your comrades. Out of town guests will be put up in one of our sponsoring hotels.
All filmmakers of the Northwest are invited to the Festival's free BarCamp un-conference where attendees set the agenda and lead discussions on all aspects of filmmaking-sharing their areas of expertise with each other.
Every filmmaker who enters eligible work is offered two free tickets to Festival screenings regardless of whether they are selected or not.

The entry deadline is August 1 (postmark) but be a pal and send it along as soon as you can. I personally watch all the entries and would love to get a running start at it.

The School of Art, Design & Printing Dublin Institute of Technology is offering a suite of Masters programmes specifically designed for honours graduates in fine art, multimedia, design, architecture and humanities. It has been developed by the School in collaboration with the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media (www.gradcam.ie) which delivers a structured Doctoral programme. The programme is centered around the development and delivery of a major project which can be either practice or theory based. Key features of this approach are the integrated delivery of Masters and Doctoral research methods as well as a special series of lectures providing a survey of key ideas in the study of contemporary cultural practice.

The programme combines the self-directed ethos of graduate academic research with the structured environment of a taught programme. Drawing on the diverse research and scholarly activity by staff in the School and the activities of GradCAM it aims to nurture and support an interdisciplinary approach to research and development within art, design and critical theory. What is experimentation? What makes art 'experimental'? What are the results of aesthetic experiments and why do we need them? Could artists invent new modes of experimentation with/for science? What are the differences between experiments and inventions; experiments and failures; experiment and innovation? How do we set up ethico-scientific-aesthetic experiments?

This conference will showcase and discuss innovative arts projects by leading practitioners, thinkers and research groups that model new forms of transdisciplinarity and offer new ways of addressing real-world issues. These include works that have successfully 'changed the world' as well as speculative initiatives that radically change the way we think. It will survey the results and potential of Experimental Arts, inviting leaders in the field to discuss how we can extend and support a platform for path-breaking experimentation.

CAMP: MEDIA ARTS ACADEMY FOR TEENS #8

If you’re thinking about applying to film school or want to experience the excitement (and challenges) of creating an entire film from scratch and experiencing a real film shoot, you don’t have to go to New York or Los Angeles. Now in its 12th year, the MEDIA ARTS ACADEMY FOR TEENS is the School of Film's premier opportunity to learn with award-winning film professionals, work in a small group, and use professional level digital video equipment and Apple Final Cut Pro software. Bring several script ideas to the first day. You'll work as a group to determine producability, what attributes make a story great, and to select one concept to develop into a screenplay. You will then be involved in all aspects of production, including planning, casting, directing, working with actors, shooting, lighting, sound recording, and editing to a polished level. Come prepared to work hard and learn an amazing amount! Expect at least one long shooting day during the class. The week will culminate in a screening for family and friends in the Film Center's state-of-the-art Whitsell Auditorium. Tuition includes catered lunches. No previous experience is required. Completed films will be uploaded to a special class online video album.

Enrollment is limited to 14.

PROJECT YOUTH DOC (PYD) is a summer video documentary program for youth ages 13-16 years old taught at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, OR. Working in small teams with the guidance of professional filmmakers, students go through the process of producing, filming and editing a short documentary from start to finish. Students create documentaries focusing on the most powerful force in our society today, their own voices, turning the camera inward to explore issues important to their lives and communities.

Documentary topics by PYD students have included:

* "Flashmobs" – Looks at the new 'Flashmob' phenomenon, where a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place perform an unusual and sometimes seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment and/or satire
* “Alberta" – Examining the Alberta neighborhood in Portland, focusing on the people, businesses, and recent changes affecting the area
* “Disabled Lives” – Several hearing impaired PYD students explore cochlear implants, the controversial new technology that many see as endangering deaf culture.

Habitat for Humanity, dedicated to building simple, decent, affordable homes for low income residents of the Springfield/Eugene area, presents a brews and blues festival each year featuring live music, crafted brews, food and wine along the banks of the beautiful Willamette River. This is a benefit fund raiser for Habitat for Humanity projects. Included in this event is an ART TENT. In this tent original art is displayed and sold through silent auction.

ARTISTS. This is your opportunity to do well by doing good. This is your opportunity to display and sell your work; your work will be viewed by the thousands of attendees of this two day event held August 5-6, 2011.

ART TENT SALES.

1. You may submit your work as a consignment sale. The final sales price will be divided between the artist (60%) and Habitat for Humanity (40%).

2. You set the opening bid price for your work. No work will be sold below the opening bid price.

3. Donated art will be accepted as well. In this case you should provide information as to what you believe would be a fair opening bid price.

WORK SIZE AND PRESENTATION.

1. All art must be ready for display and/or hanging.

2. All art must be of a size to be easily carried.

3. All art must be able to be easily transported. Unduly fragile works will not be considered.

REQUIREMENTS.

1. All art will be reviewed prior to acceptance. Representatives of the Festival Board will act as selection reviewers.

2. Absolute deadline for application for participation and art review is Monday, August 1, 2011.

Attached is our David Joyce Gallery Request for Proposals. We will be accepting Proposals due the end of July for the Fall Exhibit, which will run Thursday, September 1 - Wednesday, December 28.

If you are interested in submitting an artist’s proposal for any of our year’s exhibits, a detailed timeline for the exhibit dates is included. The David Joyce Gallery shows three exhibits during the Lane academic year. The spring exhibit extends through the summer. A separate Request for Proposal will be electronically sent to you with the submission deadline dates for the winter and spring exhibits.

~Please send the following materials required for submission images by MONDAY, JULY 25TH. We will review your submission materials and images, and notify you of acceptance by phone and email.

Please submit the following:

1. Request for Proposals Entry Form (attached).

2. General Artist’s Statement (Description of artist’s works and context)

3. Exhibit Artist’s Statement (Description of artist’s vision for this exhibit)

4. Resumé

5. Digital Images on CD-Rom: As many images as you like. For accurate and best viewing files should be high quality jpeg files if possible. Label each image with artist’s last name and a number, or letter A, B, C, etc. that corresponds with your image list, and an identification title.

6. List of Images – On an 8½” X 11” sheet, list your full name(s), followed by a list with: art medium, image identification number or letter, title, dimensions & size, and the year piece was completed. This list should correspond with the digital images.

7. Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope – For return of CD and accompanying information.

Cinema Pacific Launches Monthly Filmmaker Dialogues at the Bijou

Cinema Pacific is pleased to announce that on June 23, a monthly series called the Cinema Pacific Filmmaker Dialogues will launch at the Bijou theater in Eugene.

The first program will be the Sundance sensation If a Tree Falls, about the environmental protests that culminated in Daniel McGowan's "ecoterrorist" conviction in Eugene. The 6:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. showings will be followed by a live Skype discussion with director Marshall Curry, moderated by Cinema Pacific director Richard Herskowitz.

Film Description: On December 7, 2005, federal agents conducted a nationwide sweep of radical environmentalists involved with the Earth Liberation Front. If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front tells the remarkable story of the rise and fall of the Eugene-based ELF cell, by focusing on the transformation and radicalization of one of its members, Daniel McGowan. Part coming-of-age tale, part cops-and-robbers thriller, the film interweaves a chronicle of McGowan facing life in prison, with a dramatic investigation of the events that led to his involvement with ELF.

Drawing from striking archival footage and intimate interviews with ELF members, and with the prosecutor and detective who were chasing them, If a Tree Falls explores the tumultuous period from 1995 until early 2001 when environmentalists were clashing with timber companies and law enforcement and the word "terrorism" had not yet been altered by 9/11.

Post Office to Eugene Museum

Eugene has a blighted downtown with many empty storefronts. Two of the most important art galleries in our tiny arts district have just gone under. The arts programs in the schools have been gutted. If we had a place for artist studios, exhibit spaces, and art classrooms we could establish an anchor site for the downtown, help improve the Eugene economy, preserve its historic heritage, and provide a permanent collection for its local artists of merit.

The POEM organizing group blog outlines current process. The group is attempting to purchase ($1.2M) and renovate ($20M) the building for use as a community historic and art center/museum. Full-time photography students and photographers age 24 or under can apply for a scholarship.
The Ian Parry Scholarship is designed to help young documentary photographers undertake a chosen project and raise their profile in the international photography community. It is named after photographer Ian Parry, who died on assignment in Romania at the age of 24.
The top prize is UK£3,000 (about US$4900) and UK£500 (about US$820) for runners-up. The Sunday Times Magazine publishes a selection of images from the competition and World Press Photo automatically nominates the winner for the Joop Swart Masterclass.

Job Summary:

1. Administrative Coordination includes oversight and management of the ABAE business plan; working with committee and sub-committee chairs to direct and oversee activities that achieve the goals of the business plan; coordinating the daily business of ABAE in a professional, efficient manner; and acting as the ABAE representative in the community.

2. Execution of ABAE projects and strategic objectives will include sustaining the ABAE five partner structure; developing and maintaining good relationships with business and arts representatives; developing sponsorships; and leveraging earned income from Eugene A Go-Go and other ABAE projects and products.

3. Provide staff and volunteer supervision and related training to put on ABAE events such as the BRAVA Breakfasts, educational workshops, Battle of the Bands, etc.

4. Work with grant writers to submit funding proposals.

Adhering to, and establishing as necessary, policies and procedures for successfully operating in the Chamber of Commerce office environment.
Reporting to and communicating with the ABAE steering and executive committees on a regular basis.
Preparing for and attending meetings as required.
Creating systems for tracking projects, communicating progress, and creating systems/procedures for accountability and operations as needed (i.e., reports, tracking logs, managing budgets and timelines, etc.)
Using various computer software programs to prepare reports and assigned projects (MS Word, Excel, Outlook software are the primary programs)
Managing the ABAE website.
Drafting letters; practicing good public relations; using good listening and people skills; solving daily problems; etc.

Education and Experience:

Required:
Bachelor’s Degree
3-5 years in a coordination, management, development or communications position
Computer proficiency in web development/maintenance using web content management systems; proficiency in using word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets; and proficiency in using a variety of online scheduling, project management, and communication tools
A track record of working independently; proven leadership experience

Preferred:
Experience in preparing communications and marketing plans
Experience in strategic planning and implementation
Experience working within a team atmosphere that includes high-level executives in the public and private sectors
